Meet Majorie Edwards, Customer Service Representative

Chances are, if you call Community Care’s customer service line, the voice you’ll hear on the other end of the line is that of customer service representative Majorie Edwards, or Margie, as everyone calls her.

Margie’s main job is to answer Community Care’s customer service number and direct callers to the person or information they need, but she also coordinates weekend care schedules.

“I feel like I never do the same thing twice. I’m constantly being challenged, because each phone call is different; each day is different,” says Margie. “My main goal is to make sure people are happy with us.”

Margie has built a career around her desire to help others. Before joining Community Care three and a half years ago, she worked in child welfare, but says she needed a change because her job was too disheartening. She had heard about Community Care, and after looking at the website, Margie was so intrigued that she applied for an open position in enrollments that same day.

She worked in enrollments obtaining medical information for new enrollees until taking on her current role as the dedicated person to answer the customer service line. Now Margie receives anywhere between two and 20 phone calls per day and talks to a variety of different audiences.

“My attitude has always been that there are no stupid questions,” she says. “People are calling because they need help with something. If someone doesn’t understand something, it’s my job to help them.”

One of the reasons Margie works so hard to help people get the information they need is because she sees what a difference Community Care makes in the lives of its participants or members.

“In the clinic, you can see that everyone is helping out. Even though I’m up in the office, I feel like I’m helping too,” says Margie. “Working for an organization like Community Care just makes you feel good.”

In her spare time, Margie likes to make jewelry and crochet. Now she has one more person to crochet for, her first grandchild, born in November. Margie also helps care for her elderly father, which is one of the reasons she values Community Care’s commitment to frail older adults.

“The day center is really important because it lets the elderly socialize, and I think that really keeps them going,” says Margie. “Some of our clients don’t have any family support, so we’re here for them.”

“I just love my job,” says Margie. “I look forward to coming to work every day.”
